Funny as it seems, I found that I sleep better at night if I watch TV instead of falling asleep in the afternoon. I have a period in the afternoon that I have to lie down, and after 6 years of trying everything to avoid the afternoon crash, I accept that I cannot just push through. (BTW - Don't you just love when someone says, "Gosh that is so nice you get to take a nap?")

However, I feel that my health is very affected by what I let into my world so I'm careful to have good TV or good movies on hand. I have my cable company's version of TiVo so I never have to watch commercials, which can be very depressing; they obviously expect that if I'm home watching TV, I must need to sue someone over a car accident or a new career as an assistant to fill-in-the-blank.

I tried so many things. I live in Boulder, Colorado and we live up to our reputation for being "out there." So of course I tried to meditate -- I have to laugh when I think of all the different flavors of meditation I tried. But I'd just fall asleep, then I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.  But, in the end, watching TV worked for me. Life is funny.

Hi Kay!

Welcome to the site!  I don't have fm, but do have ra and occasionally have nights where I can't sleep due to pain or too much prednisone making me wired.  I frequently want an afternoon nap, but find that it makes my ra worse, so I am somewhat chronically sleep deprived (as the earlier I get up, the less pain I have ra-wise).

My husband has a strict "mute" policy on the tv.  We are never allowed to listen to any commercials as they are all lies anyway, and are in general quite annoying.  Unfortunately, we're not tivo savy and only have about 15 channels (some might just call us cheap!)  I do agree about keeping stress out of your life as much as possible and try not to sweat the small stuff.

We also live in Colorado (not Boulder though).  I once attended a yoga class, but left when they wanted me to balance the weight of my whole body on just my left index finger.  Sheeeesh!  I'm right-handed!  Ok, not really one finger, but it sure felt like it, and that ended yoga.  Maybe I'll have to try a sleepy meditation.  I'm with you on the tv, but c-span  usually knocks me right out!

Thanks for posting.  I hope to hear more from you!  Take care!
